We love them all but what’s realllllly the difference between JAM, JELLY, and PRESERVES?? Plain and simple- the key differences lie in the fruit content and texture: jam has fruit chunks, jelly is smooth and clear, and preserves have large fruit pieces.But to expand a little: 1-Jam: Made from crushed or chopped fruit mixed with sugar and pectin, jam has a thicker, spreadable consistency with bits of fruit throughout.2-Jelly: Made from fruit juice, sugar, and pectin, jelly is clear and smooth, with no fruit pieces. It has a gelatinous texture.3-Preserves: Made from whole fruit or large chunks of fruit, sugar, and pectin, preserves have a chunky, syrupy texture. The fruit pieces are larger and more noticeable.Now that you know the difference, which are you making this season or what’s your favorite??? Celebrating Labor Day with a little bit of outside

Celebrating Labor Day with a little bit of outside Labor. As we hold on to the last bit of summer, it opens up the kitchen to the amazing treasures coming from the garden. Peaches. Late summer raspberries. Corn. Peppers. All the delicious treats. It’s making me miss Grandma Foote a little bit more and also reminding me how she taught us well. Work hard for the rewards (thank goodness I have friends with an amazing garden, mine didn’t happen!) and then preserve it all so you can enjoy it throughout the year. This year feels different not having Grandma there to hold our hand but we’re going to do it. Because what better way to remember her than being in the kitchen preserving the way she always taught us how. If you’re like us and want to get started on bottling, jamming and maybe even a few experiments. Stay tuned. We want to bring you along as we save all this fruit for the winter. #peaches #garden #september
