Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with an authentic Mexican treat – a warm, sugary churro. Churros are a great treat that is easy to make and fun to include kids. After frying the churros, have your kids help by rolling them in cinnamon and sugar. Use this easy churros recipe.
What you’ll need
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 cup water
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup flour
3 large eggs
Cinnamon and sugar (to coat)
In a saucepan, combine sugar, butter, water, and salt. Turn on heat to medium high and bring to a boil. Stir occasionally. Reduce heat to low and add flour. Stir well. Cook over low heat for 2 minutes.
Remove from heat and let the batter cool for about 10-15 minutes. While the batter is cooling, preheat some cooking oil to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Add the eggs to the batter one at a time and mix well between each egg. Place the prepared dough into a pastry bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe 4-5 inches of dough into the hot oil.
Fry until they are deep golden brown.
When the churros are done, remove them from the oil and toss them in cinnamon and sugar. Serve with a warm caramel sauce by melting some caramel at half power in the microwave for 1-minute intervals. Enjoy!
