Healthy Homemade Hummus Recipe Without Tahini

9415_homemade-hummus

This is one of our favorite hummus recipes. It’s a great way to make hummus if you don’t have tahini handy and is really quite simple to make. Hummus is a healthy alternative to other veggie dips and is easy to flavor with a few extra spices of your choice or some flavoring oils. Try it with this flatbread recipe and watch as it becomes an instant crowd pleaser.

What you’ll need

2 15-ounce cans of chickpeas (garbanzo beans)

2 cloves of garlic

3 tablespoons olive oil

2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

1 teaspoon cumin

1/4 cup water

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon paprika

Makes 10 servings

In a food processor, combine the chickpeas, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, cumin, water, and salt. Blend until the mixture becomes smooth. If the hummus isn’t turning as creamy as you would like, add a little extra water 1 tablespoon at a time, until you have the consistency you like.

Place in a serving dish and top with a sprinkle of paprika. If you don’t enjoy the taste of paprika, drizzle a little olive oil on top of your hummus before serving.

Healthy Homemade Hummus Recipe

Serve your hummus with some fresh cut veggies. We enjoy using carrots, celery, cucumbers, and bell peppers. However, hummus is one of those versatile dips that tastes great when used as a condiment or served with cheese, crackers, and olives. Enjoy!
